The Disability Policy Seminar is the premier opportunity to cultivate champions on Capitol Hill and advance the grassroots movement for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Join AUCD, the Arc, AAIDD, NACDD, SABE, and UCP as we learn about and advocate for access to health care and community living supports, and bedrock civil rights protections. The first 100 days of any new Administration and Congress are key to setting the agenda, and this year, more than ever, we need you in Washington, DC.

In this time of heightened civic engagement, political activity, and significant policy changes at the federal and state levels, AUCD network programs increasingly find themselves in a politically precarious position - balancing requirements around trainee and community education against limitations put on federally funded programs. In this webinar, AUCD technical assistance staff will review a summary of federal guidance on how UCEDD, LEND, and DBP programs should and should not engage in advocacy on behalf of and in partnership with people with disabilities and their families. They will use the federal guidance to outline a spectrum of systems change activities possible for individuals and centers/programs. A veteran director will then discuss how his center/program has operationalized this guidance, with attention to potential pitfalls.

Disability advocates Candace Cortiella and Ricki Sabia will provide an overview of key ESSA provisions important to ensuring equity for students with disabilities, share issues identified in their analyses of Consolidated State Plans to date and offer tips on how AUCD network members can be more involved in state plan development.

This webinar will provide a forum for discussing issues related to the inclusion of family in MCH Training programs. Panelists will discuss existing resources to strengthen the family discipline and strategies for program leaders and family faculty to build their programs by broadening and deepening the involvement of families.

A focused investigation will examine school districts' compliance with federal laws designed to ensure the safety of students of color with disabilities against discrimination, and whether laws adequately protect these students from discriminatory disciplinary actions and policies.

It is well documented meaningful relationships are connected to better health, social, and quality of life outcomes for all people, including people with disabilities. Relationships can help to create a greater sense of identity, self-worth, and belonging. Relationships are important, but they can look different for all of us. Sexual health is an important topic for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Unfortunately, conversations related to sexual health are often not fully addressed or are pushed aside because of fear, lack of comfort with the topic, or lack of information. Join us for a webinar on the importance of sexual health for individuals with IDD. Participants will hear from Joe Shapiro from NPR and Barbara Thomas from the Tall Institute as they discuss why this sensitive topic needs to be addressed.
